Fortanix Marks Third Year of Delivering Intel® SGX-based Confidential Computing and Cloud Security Solutions
Fortanix® Inc., the Runtime Encryption® company, today announced it is entering its third year of delivering Confidential Computing and cloud security solutions based on Intel® Secure Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) secure enclaves. As the first company to launch an Intel® SGX-based Runtime Encryption® solution, Fortanix stands as the only company providing a holistic ecosystem of Confidential Computing solutions leveraging Intel® SGX.
Confidential Computing powered by Intel® SGX secure enclaves allows for a variety of enterprise use cases, including securing data-centric workloads such as blockchain, databases, AI/machine learning and analytics. Secure enclaves provide increased confidentiality, integrity, and protection for the data and applications running within them, even if the infrastructure is compromised.
Based on Runtime Encryption® technology, Fortanix has expanded its ecosystem of holistic security products leveraging Intel® SGX. The company partnered with IBM to deliver IBM Cloud™ Data Shield for Confidential Computing running on IBM infrastructure powered by Intel® SGX-capable servers. Fortanix also launched the industry’s first Intel® SGX-based unified key management and hardware security module (HSM) product, its Self-Defending Key Management Service™ (SDKMS). It also partnered with Equinix to launch SmartKey™, a SaaS-based multitenant HSM-as-a-Service. Earlier in the year, the company launched its open source SDK, called Enclave Development Platform (EDP). EDP provides a native Rust-based SDK to write Intel® SGX enclaves, allowing developers to leverage Rust’s built-in security capabilities to help create more secure applications.
“Intel® SGX is the enabler for Confidential Computing and Fortanix has leveraged that enablement over the past three years to build future proof cloud security solutions,” said Ambuj Kumar, Co-Founder and CEO of Fortanix. “With our Runtime Encryption® technology, Fortanix has made significant advancements in Confidential Computing delivering data-in-use protection leveraging Intel® SGX and key industry partnerships.”
As one of the earliest adopters of Intel® SGX technology, Fortanix created its Runtime Encryption® platform three years ago to lay the foundation for Confidential Computing. Runtime Encryption® enables a fundamentally new level of security and privacy allowing organizations with highly sensitive data to operate securely in the public cloud. Intel® SGX makes this protection possible through protected regions of memory called secure enclaves. The Fortanix technology transparently protects applications by creating a portable security envelope to run applications in completely protected states. With Runtime Encryption®, organizations can run data-centric workloads with security in the cloud and take advantage of all the advantages cloud computing provides while remaining completely protected.
Fortanix is solving today’s cloud security and data privacy problem. By decoupling security from the infrastructure, Fortanix removes complex and intractable security challenges experienced with current solutions. Running applications in protected enclaves enables a new level of deterministic security on premise, in hybrid environments, and even on remote clouds, protecting data even when systems are compromised.
